Residential

Residential architecture in Sudbury and Ontario

Custom homes, additions, cottages and outdoor living. Many of our residential projects are on lakeside or constrained lots, and many are phased so families can keep living in their homes.

What we design

Homes that fit their site and their owners.

  • New custom homes on difficult lots. Kingsmount Residence fits four storeys onto a narrow severed lot, with a minor variance for its elevator.
  • Additions and renovations. At the Nepahwin Residence, a nail-laminated timber balcony and solarium were built over several years with the owners taking part in construction.
  • Cottages and prefabricated homes. Wahnapitae Residence adapts a supplier's modular cottage to a sloping, conservation-regulated lakeside site.
  • Outdoor living. Garson Residence joins a pool, fire-pit, outdoor kitchen and lounge into one outdoor space.
  • Adding a home on the same land. Our Lantern Box framework adds a dwelling above an existing house on its own frame.
Questions

Common questions

Do you design cottages and lakeside homes?

Yes. Several projects sit within Conservation Authority or shoreline buffer limits, which affect where and how you can build. We review those limits at the start.

Can we build in phases, or do some of the work ourselves?

Yes. Phased work is common in our residential projects. At the Nepahwin Residence, details and materials were chosen so the owners could take part in construction over a longer schedule.

Do you handle minor variances and permits?

Yes. We prepare minor variance applications, site plan submissions where required, and building permit drawings, and can provide construction administration.
